Decorating with pots outdoors

Decorating with pots outdoors gives you the flexibility to move plants around and change your style with the seasons. Large planters look amazing by the porch for a welcoming impression, while a cluster of smaller pots in varying heights creates a beautiful focal point on the deck.

Which material should I choose?

When choosing an outdoor pot, it is important to consider drainage and frost resistance. Many of our pots are designed to withstand the elements, but remember to protect them during the coldest winter months if they are filled with soil, to prevent cracking.

Beautiful plant supports and accessories

For taller plants and climbers, it is lovely to add rustic plant supports that blend into the country feel. A well-placed plant support adds both function and beauty to your plantings.

Frequently asked questions about outdoor pots

How do I protect my outdoor pots from frost during winter?

To prevent your pots from cracking in freezing temperatures, ensure they have proper drainage. Elevate the planter slightly with pot feet so excess water can escape. Wet soil expands when it freezes, which can break even durable materials. For extra protection, wrap sensitive pots in bubble wrap or jute, or move them under a roof.

Do outdoor planters need drainage holes?

Yes, it is highly recommended. Without drainage holes, your plants' roots risk drowning during heavy rain, and the chance of frost damage in winter increases significantly. If your pot doesn't have a hole, you can drill one, or use it as a decorative outer cover with a draining inner pot and clay pebbles at the base.

What size pot should I choose for outdoor trees and shrubs?

For small trees like olive trees, fig trees, or butterfly bushes, choose a large planter that holds at least 30–50 liters of soil. Trees need plenty of space for their root systems to thrive, and a larger soil volume helps retain moisture better during warm summer days.
